Andrea Muendelein

Andrea Muendelein is visual artist working with photography. Her practice-based research examines how the notion of the stranger can be understood through photography, challenging both conventional understandings of the stranger and the idea of photographic image as referential, punctual certainty.

Andrea graduated with a MA in Fine `Art in 2005 and a PhD in Fine Art Photography from Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London in 2019. She has participated in artist retreats, symposia and conferences such as ‘Cill Rialaig’, Ireland, ‘Nida Art Colony’, Lithuania, ‘Integrity & Ethics in Arts Research’ at Chelsea College of Art and ‘Light | Sensitive | Material’ at the University of West London. Her work has been shown in exhibitions such as ‘Re-Stage’, Davies Street Gallery and ‘Minor Revisions’ at Tenderpixel Gallery in London. Recent shows include Dimbola Museum, Isle of Wight and Exp.’20 at the Institut d”Estudis Fotografics de Catalunya, Barcelona.

Andrea is a student mentor and photography short course tutor at the University of the Arts London, and works with UMO, University Mentoring Organisation, providing mentoring for undergraduate and postgraduate students in universities across London. She founded Creative Arts Mentoring (CAM) in 2020 to create a platform to expand her mentoring, coaching and teaching practice. She is running a photography group for the South London community around Crystal Palace, Gipsy Hill, Anerley, and Croydon.
