Andrea was born in Germany and worked as an art director and photographer in publishing houses in Cologne and Düsseldorf before moving to London, where she studied Photography and Fine Art at Central St Martins between 2002 and 2005. Following the completion of her MA course she started to teach and exhibit her work. She has shown her photography work in group and solo exhibitions in the UK and internationally. She won a doctoral studentship award by the British Arts & Humanities Research Council in 2012.

As a teacher and mentor she has since worked with several hundred students and has supported many students to complete their degrees, often over several years and throughout their studies or in the run-up to their final submissions. She has been a student herself four times and her tutors know that she was sometimes an excellent student and on other occasions a student who did not seem to progress, all of which has informed her mentoring and coaching work. She is now mentoring and coaching students, staff, researchers and professionals in and outside her field. She also works with extraordinary people outside of the educational context, many of whom have become friends.
